Anyway, the heat seems to have dropped off here, returning things to balmy summery conditions. My computer might not be coping well though. It was crashing out this morning repeatedly this morning and keeps beeping at me which may indicate a heating thing. Of course it isn’t telling me that anywhere else so it could be any old thing really. I’m sure it will let me know by shutting down at the drop of a hat though.

[Barny Cusp] This old man came rolling home. That’s what I think every time I see the term Kwisatz Haderach. I started reading the Dune series. Everything seems very familiar but I’m not sure I’ve ever read them before. Perhaps I’ve been hitting the Spice a bit hard and I’m seeing the future. Though surely if I had I would have had a flutter on the ponies and bought myselk an airconditioner.

Anyway, here’s a comic which is more or less related to that topic.

[Barny Cusp] The midweek humps slouches its way around again, waiting to be warm. Oh wait, it was at 5am and now it’s just hot again. Perfect comic writing weather. Or it would be if not for the temperature. Times like these I wonder why I moved to get away from the hot weather only to end up sweltering again. But then I watch then news and see my home city is under water. And that water’s probably warm so I guess there’s always an upside.

[Barny Cusp] It’s Superbowl ~~Sun~~Monday where the world watches as burly Americans (and one ex-AFL Ozzie) strap on too much padding and hit each other before having a congratulatory hug and a bit of a rest before doing it again. Also, there’s a football game on. It’s finished here but I won’t mention anything about it in case someone’s taped it to watch later. I can’t think of having to watch a game that interminable and having the ending already spoiled would be any more fun.

It’s still pretty warm here. I do distinctly remember moving 3,000 kilometres to get away from this sort of weather but, like a zombie slasher in a foggy, flood-lit fores, it seems to have caught up with me. Blast it.

So here’s a comic. I’m going to go sit in a small child’s wading pool to cool off.

Except in the case of the dog. But he’s a terminator now so it’s kinda hard to understand why he’d like boobs anyway. Maybe he’s complex.

[Barny Cusp] So we’re a day late today, having taken a day off for Australia Day. It was a strange day this year since we not only got flogged in the cricket but the Hottest 100 was full of songs I’ve never heard. Didn’t spend very much time driving around this year, so there was very little radio listenage going on. That just means that the highlights were the three Flight of the Conchords songs that made it in. Truly funny stuff.

Also, a comic was there.

[Barny Cusp] Today (sort of - stupid rotating planet) the Yankistanis got a new president. Let’s hope he’s better than the last. Obviously he’d have to try pretty hard to do worse - but maybe he could go power mad, get kryptonite posioning and make a deal with Darkseid to keep the Empire off America’s back for ever. That’s obviously a worst-case scenario. In reality my main concern is his lack of combat training and therefore his inability to fight his way out of terrorist hijackings or alien invasion. These things keep me up at night*.

In the meantime we have struggled on and continue our epic comic storyline which is shaping up to have more stories and less robots than our last (not including the fridge robot and the cyborg dog).

Johnny was talking about writing today and we got onto the topic of Matthew Riley’s particular brand of insanity. I mocked up this helpful chart to make it easy to write scene in the Riley fashion! He’ll have to insert pointless italics himself.

A New Leaf

[Barny Cusp] I have a new computer. Mostly. Well, I have a new CPU in my motherboard and a new version of windows to cope with the extra 32 bits it now commands. It’s a hell of a lot faster at many things, though weirdly clunky at a few other, simple things. Like Peggle. I had a go last night (waiting while I downloaded all the programs that I use in the background to get Windows working in a way that keeps me sane) and was getting, easily, four frames per second. Maybe more. I have no idea why a small, casual game would be suffering while Team Fortress was running much faster, smoother and (according to a random passer-by) with better graphics. But then that’s what I keep Johnny around for. He’ll be sure to explain it, then explain it again using smaller words and then finally he’ll break out his ‘Education Puppets’ which will be what I’m waiting for all along, of course.

Witness the wonders of a new comic, drawn (and not conceived) on this very computer. Which is partly new!
